Coming in January: Award Winning Author/Illustrator
Charles Spencer is delighted to have Chris Soentpiet scheduled to speak to our staff and students during the last week in January. Mr. Soentpiet has won many awards for his illustrations and our students are very fortunate to have this opportunity to hear him thanks to a challenge grant from the Tift County Foundation for Educational Excellence.
Teacher of the Year 2008-2009: Servilla Edwards
Servilla Edwards was chosen as Charles Spencer Elementary School's Teacher of the Year for 2008-09. Ms. Edwards has taught school for28 years. She is now teaching her grand-students. Spencer staff and students would like to congratulate Ms. Edwards for a job well done.

- Charles Spencer students held a mock presidential election Nov. 4, 2008. Mrs. Jane Walker's GATE classes were in charge of the polls and counting the votes. Barak Obama won the election with a popular vote of 351 and a total of 85 electoral college votes to John McCain's 249 popular vote and 65 electoral college votes. Thanks to Mrs. Walker's classes for all of their hard work!

4th grade GATE class
- Literacy Night, Family Night at the Book Fair, and PTO program will be Tuesday, November 11, 2008 beginning at 6:00 p.m. Our fourth grade students will be giving a musical performance. Parents and students will be able to purchase books at the book fair, and students will be able to read and take AR tests. Please come and support your child and the school!

Report Card Highlights
- Met Adequate Yearly Progress criteria in 13 out of 13 areas.
- 92% of 6th graders met or exceeded standards on the Reading CRCT.
