Literacy Coach
My role at J. T. Reddick is a literacy coach. I teach half of the day in a regular education classroom and coach classroom teachers the other half of the day. Within the host classroom, I begin teaching reading during the reading workshop to help students learn new strategies to help them become lifelong readers. During reading workshop, I also teach guided reading groups so students will receive reading instruction on their instructional level. After groups, students share what they learned from the minilesson and how they can apply it to whatever they read. After reading workshop, I teach students writing strategies and who they can apply them to their own writing. After reaching students, I then coach classroom teachers on ways they can better serve the students in their classroom. As a coach, I preconference with the teacher, visit the teacher’s classroom, and then post conference with the teacher on ways to help his or her students be successful.
