Art Education
All students attend art for one hour each week during the third grading period. Students explore and create art using a variety of media.
Fourth grade students explore visual literacy, bridging art and academics. Creating a wide array of textured papers with bubble paints, marbling, salt and alcohol watercolors, scraped textures, students use these papers to create one large collage to illustrate a poem they write about emotions. These painting techniques are lots of fun, but they certainly are messy! Each fourth grade student will need to bring an old, large shirt to help cover their clothes during painting.
Fifth and Sixth grade students will use clay and molds to create beautiful slab pottery. Ceramics projects are always some of the students’ favorite activities. After ceramics, students will use watercolors and tempera to paint two identical paintings in the theme of their choice. The two paintings will then be cut and woven together to make one beautifully textured and colored painting. Each fifth and sixth grade student will also want to bring an old, large shirt for covering up during painting.
